Edward M. Oonge – Managing Partner

Edward holds a Bachelor of Law Honours Degree (L.L.B) and is a holder of Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.

He was admitted to the roll of Advocates on 24th October 2004 and is a licensed Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. He is a member of the Law Society of Kenya and the International Commission of Jurists (Kenya Chapter).

In his spare time he engages in charity work and sports.

Professional Experience

Edward has experience in court practice throughout Kenya since admission to the Bar having handled briefs in various courts in Kenya.

He has prepared and prosecuted to conclusion by trial or settlement of a wide range of matters in debt collection and compensation cases in medical ,industrial , motor claims and has a wide experience in criminal defence.

He has extensive knowledge of administrative procedure, rules of evidence trial practice and procedure.

He also has vast experience relating to perfection of securities for financial institutions such as Kenya Commercial Bank and Housing Finance Company Limited. He is involved in drawing and registration of charges, discharges, debentures, guarantees and chattels mortgage instruments and on contracts pertaining to the purchase and sale of properties by private treaty and attending to the completion of relevant transfers.

Edward has experience in debt collection and non-contentious commercial matters for companies such as aforesaid and the Credit Reference Bureau. He has also handled commercial matters relating to transfer of business agreements, memorandum of understanding agreements, service agreements, scheme administration agreements and pension scheme agreements on behalf of his clients.

Work Experience

Edward’s professional work experience began in November 2004 as an Associate in the firm of Nyaberi & Company Advocates where he served for a period of one year and in the firm of Kantai & Company Advocates for a period of one year. Edward was instrumental in establishing a firm of advocates known as Muriithi, Oonge & Company Advocates.

In January 2007 Edward resigned from the said partnership and set up the firm of Were & Oonge Advocates together with Mr Were.

F.J. Were – Partner

Were holds a Bachelor of Law Degree, Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and is a Certified Public Secretary. He was admitted to the roll of advocates in 1999 and is a licensed Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

He is a member of the Law of Society of Kenya, the International Commission of Jurists (Kenya Chapter), the Institute of the Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya and Institute of Chartered Arbitrators.

He is married and is a father of one child. In his spare time, Were engages in sports such as rugby and judo.

Were’s working experience has included drawing and registration of charges, debentures, guarantees and chattels mortgage instruments. He is also extensively knowledgeable on contracts pertaining to the purchase and sale of properties by private treaty and attending to the completion of the relevant transfers.

He has handled commercial matters relating to transfer of business agreements, memorandum of understanding agreements, service agreements, scheme administration agreements and pension scheme agreements on behalf of his clients.

For a long period of his professional life, Mr. Were has served as in-house Legal Counsel for various companies and state corporations. He has gained vast experience in company law, taxation laws, banking and insurance laws. He has also been involved in complex arbitration proceedings on behalf of his various employers in and out of the country.

Pauline W. Moranga – Associate Advocate

Pauline holds a Bachelor of Law Honours Degree (L.L.B) and is a holder of Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. She was admitted to the roll of Advocates in August 2007 and is a licensed advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

She is a member of the Law Society of Kenya and Young Lawyers Association.

In her spare time Pauline loves cooking and working with children. She is also an avid reader of academic and informative material.

Professional Experience

Pauline has a working knowledge of commercial law and conveyancing. She has also an exposure to a wide range of debt collection and non-contentious commercial matters, and is steadily building her portfolio.

Work Experience

After undergraduate studies she joined the firm of F. N. Wamalwa Advocates where she worked as a Legal Assistant before undertaking her pupilage. Her duties included drawing various pleadings, preparing court briefs, drawing various conveyancing documents and carrying out research.

After her admission to the bar, she worked on contract with Catholic Relief Services as a Legal Assistant her duties included drawing and reviewing contracts for and on behalf of the organization.

She joined the firm of Were & Oonge Advocates in March 2008.
